logo_clear_highWe were all created to prosper! Every single one of us was made to have abundance. But many of us don’t live that way. Some of us grew up not thinking we could ever prosper. Or others have listened to too many negative things and think that they could never live with abundance. But the Bible says that we are made to prosper. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” He wants us to prosper in everything we do. We need to really understand that.

One thing that people struggle with is thinking that money is not important. It is important! We need money for almost everything. And because of that, we need to learn how to handle it properly. Money is inert; it is not bad or good. Money isn’t the problem, we are the problem. If we don’t know how to respect the money that we have, then we will have problems. But money is a great tool. And with every tool, we need to know how to wield it properly, or we can hurt ourselves and others. If we know how to use money in the right way, then it is a really good thing to have. It is not wrong to have money and be able to provide for yourself. If you can’t provide for yourself and family, how can you ever help anyone else? One of the main reasons that we are blessed is to be a blessing to others.

So how do we start to change our beliefs about being prosperous?

  1. Cut down on the negative input in life. Stop listening to the news all the time. The news is full of negativity and constantly hearing it makes you more negative. Even hearing about our recession can hurt your belief that you can be prosperous. You don’t need to pretend that nothing is wrong with the economy, but you shouldn’t be focusing on it. People who aren’t focusing on the bad economy are prospering much more than people who are. We also need to limit our contact with negative people. Try to spend more time with people who are positive and your attitude will become more positive.
  2. Find the good. Listen to CDs, DVDs, or television stations that are positive and help you. Read good books that help you learn and grow. Start putting more good in yourself than bad.
  3. Pay close attention to your thoughts. Try to keep the negative thoughts out of your head. You need to be aware of your thinking. Don’t allow negative thoughts to stay in your head. A study showed that it takes 6 or 7 positive thoughts to counteract one negative thought. But if you speak the opposite of a negative thought out loud and it counteracts after 1 time. After you think negatively, speak out loud the opposite and it will counteract the negative thought much more quickly.
  4. Speak positive. Closely tied to the third point, make sure that you are aware of what you’re saying. Speak positive things about yourself and your life and your results will get better.

To be prosperous, you need to make sure that you realize that prosperity is a good thing and then decide how to get there. Figure out what is holding you back and learn how to overcome it.
